The Motorcycle Classics Vol.4

ザ モーターサイクル クラシックス Vol.4が10月末に発刊！今回も誌面の最後のデザートとなるべく、華やかに（笑）白黒ページを飾っております。8ページに亘ってのマンクス・グランプリ、渾身のレポートをお楽しみいただければこれ幸いです。

The latest issue of the Motorcycle Classics was released in the end of October. My contribution this time is 8 pages long, about Manx Grand Prix history and 2010 report!

Laxeyにあるマン島名物の一つ、水車のレディーイザベラと愛車。リコンディションしたばっかりのマグネトーにマイナープロブレムがあった以外は最高に気持ち良く走ってくれました。あ、そういえばケーブルも切れましたが。オイルタンクキャップを、きっちり閉め忘れて飛ばした以外は、振動で何も落ちることもなくて一安心。2年間付き合って、ようやく自分の愛車という感覚がしっくり馴染んできた気がします。

Lady Isabella with my BSA. She was a very good girl in the island apart from a couple of minor problems on the reconditioned magneto. I did get a lot of help from the Gold star owner's club guys and can not thank enough. Hope I can give something back to the club one day. After this trip, about 1,000 miles, I can feel that I know about my bike better and feel closer than before. Buying a motorbike is just a new starting point, isn't it?


そんな黒ゴルディーは今回の旅で元々荒い仕上げの自家塗装が荷物の擦れやらで悲しい感じになってきたので、塗り替え期間中＋気分一新でアルミタンクに載せ換え。10代の頃、バイトの先輩から譲ってもらったSRがBSA GOLD STARレプリカで、この形状のFRPタンク（5L以上入れると漏れる）がついておりました。それがそもそも、ゴルディーに惚れるきっかけになったという、非常にベタベタな流れではありますが、いざこの形にしてみるとその頃の憧れやら、無知さやらが蘇ってくるものです。タンクは一昨年に入手していましたが、何となく気分が乗る＋しっかり保管できるガレージを借りるまでは、と部屋一番のオブジェにしていました。飽きることなくじーっと愛車を眺める至福の初心さえも思い出させてくれた、何となくほろ苦いような気もするタンク交換でありました。オリジナルのクロームタンクはまだちょっと早い気がするので、これもまた数年後に？

The tank on my BSA was home sprayed and was not good job at all, which I did! I decided to strip the paint off to refresh it, while that time the Alloy 5 gallon tank has been sitting on the bike. My first motorbike was Yamaha SR, already customised like the Goldie. That was the first contact to the BSA Gold Star and started longing about it.
